Total Pet Care Guide

Complete Pet Care

Total pet care means addressing and providing for all the needs of our pets sufficiently. Whatever animal your pet is it has basic needs, as do all living things. These basic needs focus mainly on sustenance and shelter, for example food and water are the most basic of all needs. Shelter is also extremely important for the well being of your pet.

Total pet care covers these basic needs as well as other needs and requirements for all our pets. Grooming, hygiene and health care are among the total pet care necessities that we must provide for our pets.

The guide covers your complete pet care needs under the following headings, including:

Total Pet Care In Food

Water is necessary for almost all living things, certainly for all our pets, including cats, dogs, rabbits and birds. Total pet care means that you always provide drinking water for all your animals. Make sure they don’t run out by checking that they have water regularly. Some animals, and in particular birds, also need water to bathe in so it is best to provide a shallow basin for your pet bird every now and again. Try to suit the size of your bird with the size and depth of the basin.

Food is also necessary for all animals, although the type of food you give them depends on what pet you have, and of course the size and age of the animal. If you are unsure ask a vet for advice. Usually the amount of food you give your pet should be consistent with the amount of energy it expels daily. Some pets, and some times older animals, are slow movers and will not need a lot of food throughout the day.

Total pet care in providing the right amount of food and the right kind of food is necessary for your pets to thrive and to be healthy. Some pets may even have special needs when it comes to food and you will need to provide for these needs. In some circumstances pets develop special needs with age so you must monitor and provide for these needs. For further advice and health checks on your pet visit your vet regularly.

Total Pet Care In Shelter

The shelter you need to provide for your pet depends on the kind of pet you have and it must correspond to its size. It will also depend on the natural habitat of your pet, and each animal’s preferences. Giving total pet care to your pet means that you provide what is natural to it.

Only a few animals have been domesticated and can adapt well to man's home. Some animals have very specific needs for shelter as well as food. If you are unsure of your pets needs seek advice from an expert, such as a vet, a breeder, a pet shop or the place you bought your pet from.

Total Pet Care In Grooming And Hygiene

An important part of total pet care for your pet is to maintain its cleanliness and hygiene, this is important for it’s overall health and wellbeing.

Most animals do not actually need to take a bath every day but you must find out your animal’s specific needs and follow them. Some experts recommend bathing a dog once a month as part of its care. Cats may need less baths since they groom themselves extensively. Other animals will bathe themselves accordingly as the need arises while others do not bathe at all.

Remember to provide your pet with water to bathe in if it bathes itself, as birds do. If your pet does not need bathing it may need brushing or grooming if it’s fur becomes tangled or knotted. Some animals also enjoy being groomed as it is comforting and relaxing for them, and can promote trust between owner and pet. Other animals do not like to be brushed at all. It is important to find out the specific needs of your pet.

Remember, proper pet care does not necessarily mean that what is best for people is best for your pet. Take time to find out about the specific needs of your pet to be able to meet these needs and have a happy, healthy animal.
